AnchorAliens

AnchorAliens asks the question, is it human nature or learned behavior which most influences how we react to that which we are unfamiliar with? That which is different than us? That which is frightening?  When we become afraid are we easily steered toward defensive behaviors? Can a demagogue exploit our fears for their own advancement? Featuring sound bites from current U.S. news reports, this piece examines why we still reject, denigrate, and  intimidate people based on our own preconceptions about race, gender, sexuality, religion, or nationality.
Medium: Mixed: audio-visual and light projection onto hanging sculpture in immersive environment

IllumiNation is pleased to have participated in Art Forms in Flux, a collaboration between Two Lights Theatre Company and Hairpin Arts Center in Chicago. Inspired by the upcoming theatrical production of "State Park", an original play by Aaron Weisman, this program invited 17 artists- Fluxists- to be in residence at the Hairpin Arts Center for two weeks to develop, collaborate, and otherwise create original work inspired by the play.

IllumiNation's Ilena Ferrer and Shelly Prevost were featured Fluxists in Phase 2, with a public opening on April 16, 2016.
